Course description

Mindful Productivity for Scientists is one of the signature courses of “I focus and write”. By the end of this course, the students will have a full strategy of productivity that starts with themselves at the center and builds up around the needs of each individual. For more information please have a look at the website.

THE ONLINE FORMAT

The online version with support is a format where more than 100 scientists have passed through. After the success of the in-person format of this course in Wageningen, we wanted to offer a solution for all those situations when travelling to the Wageningen campus is not convenient. But also it increases the inclusivity for all of those people that for health reasons, being in a course in person during 4 hours is not possible (for example some of my past students were recovering from burn-out and mental health issues, chronic illnesses, or long-term covid). This online format is also ideal for those with busy Schedule that want a more flexible course schedule.

LEARNING GOALS

This includes:

- An increase in self-awareness. The students identify their strengths, values, and purpose, which will be the basis for maintaining their motivation and set goals.

- A mindful approach to identify their common struggles (for example impostor syndrome, perfectionism, procrastination…), and how to respond to them so they can keep moving forward.

- How to set S.M.A.R.T.E.R. goals aligned with their values and translate these into projects and tasks.

- Plan their work so they can manage their time and their energy in an optimal way. They will identify the energy that different types of tasks consume and different activities to rest and recover energy.

- Practical tips to navigate relationships at work. From understanding cultural differences to setting boundaries.

This online format includes the following components:

  1. The online curriculum with the content described below. The students will have lifetime access to an online platform where they can watch the videos with the classes, and access a series of workbooks, planners and extra resources to implement what they learn. This system allows us to evaluate if the students have watched the videos.

  1. Two-month access to our online co-working group. There we offer 4 sessions per week of 2-hours to work in silence in a group. Either on the course materials, or to advance their research work. We support this with a Slack channel for any doubts and ongoing support.

  1. Mentoring group sessions with me and the editorial team of “I focus and write”. During the 2-months, Ana will host a total of 10 co-working sessions of 2-h with a Q&A time at the end. In addition, we’ll have 3 more Q&A group sessions

  1. Private support. The students can have a private 20-min discussion with Ana, and with one of our editors for writing advise. Ana will also will provide private support by email and inside Slack when necessary.

This format allows us to asses that the students attend at least 80% of the live classes with Ana in Zoom (a total of 23 contact hours). The extra classes with the editorial team could be a bonus. And we can also evaluate that the students watch the videos (6 hours of video content). If necessary, a requirement to receive the credits could be that they deliver the workbooks completed.

At the moment the student registers, they will have access to the online platform where to immediately start with the curriculum. Then the live sessions in zoom start the first week of the month they select to start.
