Course description

Besides the basic/overall course on PhD supervision (Professional in Supervision, PINS) we have advanced modules on specific topics related to PhD supervision and the PhD programme.

In this advanced PhD supervision workshop we will address various elements to be considered when a foreign PhD candidate wants to do a PhD at Wageningen University. We start off with the phase before arrival (selection and evaluation of the candidate, financial arrangements). Accordingly, we discuss what to consider to get the candidate to the Netherlands and registered at Wageningen University (visa, housing). Once in Wageningen the candidate must settle in and made felt at home. What role does the supervisor play here. We will also address cultural elements and how to supervise remotely.

The workshop consists of short presentations, Q&A and discussion.
