Course description
Obtaining a VENI-grant from NWO is an important milestone in the research career of young scientists in the Netherlands. The Talent Scheme is highly competitive with average success rates between 10% and 20% depending on year and science division.
The three masterclasses are directed towards talented researchers who plan to submit VENI pre-proposal in September 2025 and possibly a full proposal in beginning 2026. Participants will receive strategic and practical input for developing a competitive VENI project (Module 1), writing a convincing pre-proposal (Module 2) and full proposal (Module 3) thereby increasing their chances to receive this prestigious grant.

Programme Outline
Module 1
- Background and context, incl. evaluation procedure
- How to interpret the evaluation criteria for the research project: VENI project development in 8 steps
- Optimizing Scientific and Societal Impact: Vision and Strategy
Module 2
- How to write the sections academic Profile / Key Output / Research Idea with special attention for DORAon the writing of the VENI pre-proposal for the VENI pre-proposal call 2025 (deadline begin September 2025).
Criteria to participate: You are planning to apply for the VENI call 2025 and have started writing your application. Please make sure to bring your draft application to the workshop.
Module 3
- Writing a full VENI proposal with focus on sections 2a Research project and Section 2b Scientific and societal impact for the full VENI proposal call 2025 (deadline in January 2026).
Criteria to participate: Invitation to write a full proposal for the VENI call 2025.

Cancellation policy
You may cancel your registration at no charge until two weeks before the start of the course. After this date you will be charged the course fee. Unless you find someone to replace you in the course, you will only be charged a €50 cancellation fee. However, you must provide the course coordinator with the name and contact information of your replacement.
