The Craft of PhD Supervision
Supervising a PhD candidate is one of the most meaningful and complex roles within academia. It involves not only guiding a research project, but also mentoring a person who is learning to become an independent scholar. This three-day course supports supervisors to work closely together with their fellow supervisors on strengthening the professional and relational aspects that can make supervision effective and fun, sustainable and deeply rewarding.

WGS Lunchtime Workshops for PhD Supervisors
In this workshop for PhD supervisors specific topics and issues with regard the PhD programme and supervision will be discussed. The workshops are organised as a live event on the first Thursday of the even months.

During this workshop 'Dealing with the PhD supervisor team: Challenges and solutions' , we will explore the causes and consequences of challenges between supervisors and, more importantly, how to address and prevent them.

Supervisor Afternoon Workshop - Strengthening your PhD’s resilience (28 May 2026)
In this workshop we will identify the various challenges that PhD and EngD candidates encounter that cause stress and reduce resilience, what the responses can be and how these can be identified by the supervisors. And we address the manner in which supervisors can support their PhD’s in reducing the stress and enhancing their resilience to cope with the challenges.
